Philanthropy

Hi everyone!

My name is Katie Mallory, and I’m the Vice President Philanthropy for the Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Chi. It is truly an honor to have the opportunity to serve not only my closest friends but also the Lexington community through our chapter’s philanthropic efforts. Alpha Chi Omega supports Domestic Violence Awareness, and the UK Chapter works closely with GreenHouse17, a 24-hour crisis center for survivors of intimate partner abuse and serves 17 counties in Kentucky. This partnership gives us the opportunity to visit the shelter and plan special events for the women and children staying there. I feel so lucky to spend my time with girls who feel so passionately about DVA, and who are so willing to go the extra mile to raise money and awareness for the cause. Each fall, we host our biggest fundraising event, Paint Wars, which invites students to get a little messy for an afternoon to raise money for GreenHouse17. The entire year we organize events to spread awareness, whether that means selling French fries and soda floats, painting our hands and pledging to end domestic violence, or sharing what “Love Is” to us. I feel like I am a part of something so much bigger than myself thanks to our philanthropy and the loving hearts of my sisters.

Helping women become stronger every day is the mission of Alpha Chi Omega.

Nationally

Alpha Chi Omega’s national philanthropy encompasses the fight against domestic violence. As members, we raise awareness and educate others about domestic violence and how to start healthy relationships from the beginning, in addition to volunteering our time to aid victims and their children. Since 1992, we have worked together to fight against harmful relationships and to teach people about the importance of safe and healthy ones. Domestic violence affects one in four women nationwide and one in three college students, meaning we are working very closely with a cause that has impacted the lives of many women around us.

Locally

Our chapter has had the amazing opportunity and privilege to support a local domestic violence shelter, GreenHouse17. They are located on a beautiful 40 acre farm right outside of Lexington, and are committed to ending intimate partner abuse. They offer shelter and outreach services to 17 counties in Kentucky. On this farm, survivors and their families are able to reclaim their lives and independence in a therapeutic environment. Whether we are helping the children carve pumpkins for Halloween or assisting the shelter with some Spring-cleaning, we cherish every moment we spend there. Our signature philanthropy event held each fall, along with other smaller events throughout the rest of the school year, allow us to fundraise and support GreenHouse17 year-round. Our sisters also love to support GH17’s very own Etsy page, which sells goods handmade by survivors.

Keep up with us!
